I’ve recently had some major challenges appear ‘out of left field’ in my life. Like most challenges, they are requiring me to review things and see what needs to change. Like most people, I have found myself looking at the world and people around me to spot the things that I don’t like, and the things that ‘if only they were different’ it would all be so much easier. But, in true VR Growth fashion,  like a blinding flash of the blatantly obvious, the way forward smacked me in the face the other day while listening to the radio.

The song that came on was Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror. Have a listen, its a great song.  Now granted a lot of negative things can be said about Mickael Jackson, and this song is really about making a bigger change in the world. However, to me, the main message fits and can be summed up by the chorus of the song.

I’m starting with the man in the mirror,
I’m asking him to change his ways

No message could have been any clearer
If you wan to make the world a better place,
got to look at yourself and make a change.

I’ve heard that song countless times, but the message has never hit me before last week. It mirrors a quote I remember giving people in many of my Personal Development programmes:

“Be the change you want to see.”

So the message here is simple. If the world around you seems to be causing your life to be less than you want it to be, stop looking at the world and waiting for it to change – look at yourself, and make the changes needed in you.

What challenges have you faced that required you to change yourself. Add a comment to start the discussion.
